"Band Reunion at the Wedding"

I recently attended a tribute show to the first Decline of Western Civilization movie, with tribute bands performing songs by Fear, Black Flag, the Circle Jerks and X. There I was reminded of the excellent SNL sketch "Band Reunion at the Wedding", wherein a Fred Armisen-led band reunites at his daughter's wedding. I won't give away any of the jokes, or the special guest, but I'll just add that it's a hilarious scene with nods to several great hardcore bands, including Suicidal Tendencies and Corrosion of Conformity. These guys can play my wedding anytime.

Jamie Casino's Super Bowl Commercial

Historically, the Super Bowl is one of those places where metal goes to die, whether it's Aerosmith stomping out all of their Toys in the Attic credibility with 'N Sync and Britney Spears or Mötley Crüe repurposing "Kickstart My Heart" for Kia. Don't even get me started on Slash and the Black Eyed Peas. Yet a friend set me lawyer Jamie Casino's metal-tinged attorney ad (aired locally on a Savannah station), and I am all about it.


The music is by Nick Nolan, who doesn't have much of an internet presence (yet) but sounds like Pepper Keenan-era Corrosion of Conformity.

Metal Baby Names

I'm a big fan of writer Margaret Eby and her new book, Rock and Roll Baby Names: Over 2,000 Music-Inspired Names, from Alison to Ziggy. Any nerd for names, music and/or good writing will be engrossed, and I'm sure that I will be picking up many more copies when my friends start having kids.
