Alice Cooper, "Under My Wheels"

This is my favorite Alice Cooper song.

He wrote hit songs, which means he isn't considered as hip as his Detroit Rock City brethren like the Stooges or the MC5. But "Under My Wheels" proves that Alice was just as crucial in the rise of punk and metal, and that he rocked as hard as anyone else making music in the 70s.

There's a horn section, which usually dilutes rock 'n' roll into easy listening territory, but here it makes the song seem deadlier, giving Alice's rage the proto-Rocky Horror sensation of a musical going off the rails. Everyone from the New York Dolls to Rob Zombie would go on to write music in this vein, but when Alice is onstage, they're all still under his wheels.
