Alice Cooper, "Pretty Ballerina"

The Left Banke's Michael Brown, who died last week at age 65, wrote two songs that everyone should know--"Walk Away Renée", his biggest hit, and "Pretty Ballerina", my personal favorite and a song I've loved ever since seeing Eels cover it ages ago. It's not heavy by any means, but it's eerie enough for Alice Cooper to cover it, which he did beautifully on Dirty Diamonds ten years ago. He honors the baroque-pop of the original surprisingly well, and even some of the prettiest singing he's ever done provides creeps, like a G-rated David Lynch movie. If that pretty ballerina will give Alice Cooper a date, there must be something off about her.
