The earliest known incarnation of both black metal and death metal dates back to 1977, on the first episode of NBC's short-lived (four episodes) The Richard Pryor Show. Black Death's performance emphasizes the band's KISS and psychedelic influences, but also uncovers early death metal's stylistic debt to David Bowie and Funkadelic. I can't seem to find any other footage of the band, though this performance clip, featuring cocaine, a machine gun and Sandra Bernhard, suggests that Black Death lived dangerously.
