Marianne Faithfull

I first heard her unmistakable voice on Metallica's "The Memory Remains." She was the first-ever guest singer on a Metallica album (still the only one besides Lou Reed), and got to add her own lyrics, quoting from the film The Misfits. Metallica were considering Patti Smith, Joni Mitchell or Courtney Love for the song, but picked Faithfull off the strength of her 1996 album 20th Century Blues. She partied with band in Dublin and reportedly had some great rock star stories—James called her "a very intense character." Thank you for your life, Marianne Faithfull.
