Led Zeppelin, "Friends"

Thank you for being a friend

October 5, 2012

Dear friends,

As the original T-Paine famously wrote, "These are the times that try men's souls."

Every week, I get to address all of you as "friends," because you do the single most important thing that friends do. You're there for someone when he needs you.

It's easy to be someone's friend when he's passing Health Care Reform, ending the War in Iraq, signing the Recovery Act, repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell, overthrowing Moammar Gaddafi or getting rid of bin Laden. But when he looks shaky in front of 67 million viewers, gets overwhelmingly slammed by the media and struggles to refute a series of empty promises and lies, he learns who his real friends are.

Our President has been a friend to us when we've needed him, from passing Wall Street reform to saving America's auto industry. This week, Barack Obama needs us.

We still have space on our PA buses this weekend. Saturday, October 6 and Sunday, October 7.

President Kennedy once said "Victory has a thousand fathers, but defeat is an orphan." Let's not let this first debate be an orphan.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Take care,
Ben
